HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) continue to be a major problem across the United States, including in Rhode Island.

The goal of the DoItRIght program is to provide information about HIV and other STIs so that all can protect themselves against STI transmission.

Many people who have HIV or other STIs don’t know it and might not have any symptoms. Many STIs can be cured with antibiotics, and if found early, and treated, people diagnosed with HIV can live long healthy lives. If untreated, HIV and other STIs can cause major health problems.

The DoItRIght program is sponsored by The Center for HIV and STI Prevention at The Miriam Hospital.

Much of our research focuses on HIV and STI prevention broadly: we study things like PrEP uptake among marginalized communities, innovations in HIV/STI testing, health literacy and public health communication, high risk substance use, and many others.

Engage

A year-long study looking to better understand the experiences of people who are newly diagnosed with HIV and the improvement of their care.

Project BREAK

A program which provides free counseling to gay and bisexual men who want to cut down on substance use.

PrEP for HIV Prevention

This grant seeks to understand reasons why people may stop using PrEP and how to potentially support people who are using PrEP.

Treating High Risk Substance Use

Men who have Sex with Men (MSM) who use substances and/or participate in high-risk sexual behaviors will be provided with Screening, Brief Intervention over the phone, and Referral to Treatment.

Getting tested regularly for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV is important for sexually active people and their partners. TESTING 1-2-3 puts you in control of your health.
