Twenty-four years ago, Riha Rothberg and a small group of artists in Placitas, New Mexico organized the first Placitas Studio Tour. Since that first tour in 1998 one of the cornerstones of the tour has been to offer a welcoming and inclusive event. Only artists living in Placitas or who have their full-time studio in Placitas may participate in the tour.

To celebrate Riha’s vision and dedication to the success of the Placitas Studio Tour we are featuring one of her abstract paintings, “Deep Dreaming” as the cover for the 25th Placitas Studio Tour brochure.

The 25th Placitas Studio Tour, traditionally held over Mother’s Day weekend, invites you to our biggest and best tour ever. Mark your calendars for May 7-8, 2022, when 75 artists will open their studio doors offering a unique-behind-the-scenes peek at our growing artistic community. This is your opportunity to visit with the artists, learn about their passion for the arts, about their processes, and to purchase from them directly. The tour is free, self-guided and self-driven.

In its 25 years, the tour has become one of the most highly anticipated studio tours in New Mexico, offering creations in sculpture, painting, mixed media, glass, wood, photography, ceramics, jewelry, steel, collage, pottery, bronze and fiber.

Follow the colorful directional signs that will lead you to some of the most unique and diverse studios in New Mexico. Studios will be open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. (All studios will follow the New Mexico State COVID Guidelines in force at that time to ensure the safety of all.)

The Placitas Studio Tour wants our guests and our artist hosts to feel safe as they enjoy the 2022 tour.

Many artists have adjusted their usual studio spaces to accommodate greater distancing, and all indoor studios will follow the current New Mexico Public Health Order. 

Let’s work together to keep our communities healthy.

As you travel through Placitas, please be aware of the speed limit signs and watch for the wild horses that roam through our neighborhoods.
