FSS Lease Finance was incorporated in 2008 in response to the economic downturn and changes within the largest US banks. These banks had been primary sources for asset based lease finance for business aircraft owners and major suppliers of structured lease financing, typically extending from corporate client relationships. FSS provided consulting support services assisting financial institutions in managing support for repossessed aircraft returned to the books of major banks during the sudden downturn that year.

FSS Lease Finance had developed a relationship with the Canadian lease finance subsidiary of a major US lessor bank. In 2008, the latter agreed to work directly through FSS which in turn assumed the aviation portfolio and senior aviation management of the Canadian subsidiary.

FSS supplemented its capital and market reach through parallel syndication agreements with seven major US banks and a Canadian charter bank as well as working relationships with a number of asset lenders with existing Canadian portfolios.

FSS Lease Finance provides asset based and structured lease finance solutions to major Canadian corporate and high net worth clients. Solutions are offered for equipment ranging small piston helicopters to large intercontinental business jets. FSS Lease Finance is today extending its range of financing products to include robotics, autonomous transport vehicles and commercial drones in anticipation of a surge in demand as the rapid technical and infrastructure capacities continue to evolve and regulatory operation standards are refined and implemented.

Ian McDougall

Ian McDougall has over 30 years of experience in the aviation industry. Past positions include CEO and accountable executive positions in three Toronto based commercial aircraft operating companies and later as group chairman of a consortium of operating, maintenance, leasing and services companies including Partner Jet, UYJ Aviation, Delta-Mike Inc., Mx Aerospace, Flight Solutions and Services (FSS) Inc., (including FSS Lease Finance). He is the former C.E.O. of Learjet Canada.

A former member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Business Aviation Association (2005-2009), Ian has served on a variety of OEM product advisory panels including Cessna-Textron and Embraer.

A lawyer by training, Ian is a current member of the Law Society of Upper Canada. He has provided a wide range of professional commercial and strategic advice and negotiation assistance in support of acquisitions and financing along with extensive professional M&A experience, equipment and material procurement, and commercial joint ventures in North America, Europe and Southeast Asia. He was a former advisor to federal Minister of Energy, Mines & Resources re: Amoco-Dome acquisition, Petro-Canada privatization, & Air Canada privatization. Clients have included investment dealers, merchant banks and mezzanine financial suppliers, domestic and international aerospace companies and more.

Ian studied at Harvard Law School, Osgoode Hall Law School, and Simon Fraser University. He was the director of the joint Osgoode-Shulich JD/MBA Program from 1994-2006 and was the Lecturer on the Law of Corporate Governance and Advanced Corporate Finance from 1986-2004 at the law school.

Ian is also a multi-rated fixed wing and helicopter pilot.
